A remote brush fire off Notre Dame Avenue in Sudbury had the MNRF called in over the weekend. Greater Sudbury Fire Services was initially the only fire service called out to the blaze, however a crew had to be dropped in due to remote access.

Building 100 apartment units off Cartier Street in North Bay is underway. DNSSAB says the hope is that most of the units will be designated for seniors. There’s also hope the project will go one-step further with units as rent-geared-to-income.

Some of the best viewing in Northern Ontario is open to the public. The Hollinger Open Pit Lookout gates opened over the weekend. The lookout will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day until September.
In Sault Ste Marie, Memorial Tower repairs are expected to take five months. Last year, most residents expressed an interest in saving the tower. It will come at a cost of $790,673

Temiskaming Lodge has announced it will expand to accommodate another 32 residents, a year and a half after it opened its new facility on Drive-In Theatre Road. That will bring the long-term care home’s population to 160 residents.

Habitat for Humanity Sudbury is looking to purchase a property of Melvin Ave. The sale would be from the City of Sudbury as the site for a one-bedroom modular dwelling. The single-family house will be earmarked for a veteran family or individual.

Grade 12 Sudbury students from Francophone high schools have gotten a taste of law and order… benefiting from course offering in Law and Justice at Laurentian University. All done as part of a pilot project.

There were no injuries after a fire in the kitchen area of a home on the 900 block of Main West in North Bay this morning. The call came in just after 8:30 am. The report was the homeowner was not at home but there were pets still in the house. Fire crews knocked down the blaze, rescued a dog and administered oxygen.

Timmins Police say one of two teens reported missing have been located, safe and sound… a 13-year-old reported, Cameron, reported missing has been located. Timmins Police seek the public’s assistance in locating two missing teens. Still missing as of news time is 15-year-old Violet.

Nearly 100 pickleballers will be taking part in the second annual Pickleball Palooza this weekend! This event, takes place at the YNCU Soo Pee Wee Arena this Saturday.
