A visual art exhibit by francophone youth is being presented during this Month in Sudbury as part of St-Jean festivities. This is the second such partnership on the project for the second straight year. This collaboration aims to celebrate the emerging talent and creativity of francophone youth.
The North Bay Fire Department says an owner’s pet dog may have caused a morning kitchen fire yesterday in the city. It happened when the dog, is suspected of jumping on the stovetop to get into a pot. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a working fire with smoke and flames visible from the kitchen area. Crews put the fire out swiftly and saved the owner’s pets.

The City of Timmins is closing the swimming pool at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex this summer for maintenance and upgrades. The facility will be shut down during July and August for renovations.
The Iroquois Falls building that has for the past several years housed the Mill Market is now a second fire station. The building will hold a new, larger tanker the department’s buying, and other equipment in preparation for bigger buildings, including some barns, that are coming.
Sudbury police are holding a staged search and rescue exercise today. It’s all to simulate a coordinated response to a missing person in a remote environment. They will be in the Nelson Lake Road area… and there is no cause for concern. It’s a training exercise.
Stationary automated license plate readers are now being used on Highway 6 in Whitefish River First Nation. The system scans licence plates entering and leaving the Manitoulin District, capturing infrared and colour images at a rate of up to two plates per second.
