Power has been restored hundreds in Copper Cliff. This is after a tree fell on a power line affecting residents on a half dozen streets. Those without power are being asked to contact Sudbury Hydro.

From the good news file, thanks to the community and the Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag campaign, over 5,500 lbs of food have been delivered to the North Bay Food Bank. Held from June 14 to 21, the campaign saw 2,000 red bags dropped off throughout the area.

A recently introduced stroke rehabilitation program in Timmins is making a difference. Last fall, Ontario Health’s community stroke rehabilitation program launched, offering services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.

When Sudbury’s historic Bell Mansion sells… it comes with a property heritage designation, which affords it certain protections when it comes to development. The Bell Mansion has been closed since October 2023 due to repair issues, with its owner, Laurentian University, deciding in October 2024 that it would sell the property.

More than 30 new volunteer firefighters will be joining the frontlines in Sudbury in the coming months. A report indicates the fire service anticipates hiring 25, with letters offering employment of sorts to 34 letters volunteer firefighters.

The Sudbury Airport says they’re holding steady, maintaining their passenger count of approximately 130,000 last year. That said, there’s hope this year’s introduction of direct flights to Calgary should boost numbers in subsequent reports.

District School Board Ontario North East has put an approval stamp on its 2025-26 budget.
$162.9 million dollars has been approved by trustee’s tor the next school year. The board is anticipating enrolment to be at 7,180 students in its elementary and secondary schools, which is an increase of 59 from this year.

Meanwhile, Algoma University has found its new interim president. The announcement has been made of the appointment of Sheila Embleton as interim president and vice-chancellor, effective July 1. Evidently, Embleton recently served in the same interim role at Laurentian University.
