A Turtle Pond Wildlife Centre in Val Caron is now one of eight Ontario-based wildlife centres expressing concern over a growing number of orphaned wildlife. As temperatures rise, wildlife activity increases and many species, including raccoons and squirrels.

The Township of Bonfield has lifted its state of emergency. It had been declared after the severe weather on June 21 washed out, flooded and closed several roads in the community. Officials said ‘road crews are 90% recovered from the storm’.

The Rainbow Board has tapped reserves to balance $266.4M education budget. Nearly $260,000 will be drawn from reserves to help balance the Rainbow District School Board’s newly-approved operating plan for the 2025-26 school year.

The Ministry of Natural Resources in the North Bay District a flood watch remains in effect for the residents in Papineau-Cameron Township, Mattawan Township and the Town of Mattawa on the Ottawa River. Declared ahead of the weekend, it will be in place until Friday.

Hydro One says they have a preferred route for a 230-kilovolt transmission line linking its Mississagi transformer station near Wharncliffe (north of Thessalon and Iron Bridge) to its Third Line transformer station in Sault Ste. Marie. To that end, they’re holding open houses to discuss the plans. Completion of the new line is expected in 2029.
