Cambrian College and Laurentian University have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The goal is to provide future students with the training needed for careers in environmental sciences.

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) is leading a proposal that would upgrade Highways 11 and 17 to the 2+1 model. The first phase of the project would see HWY 11 be expanded from North Bay to Cochrane, and HWY 17 from Renfrew to Sudbury. The second phase would see expansions from Cochrane to Nipigon, Sault Ste. Marie to Sudbury, and Thunder Bay to Kenora.

A section of Lakeshore Drive in North Bay, near Booth Road, will remain closed to traffic until Friday.
The city says the stretch was slated to re-open on Monday, but will stay closed until the end of the week. A detour remains in place on Ferris Drive and Booth Road.

Two autism service providers in Timmins are receiving a combined $800,000 from the province’s Autism Program’s Workforce Capacity Fund. $400,000 is coming over a two year period.

In Elliot Lake, Bill Rosenberg, member of provincial parliament, was in Elliot Lake all to announce new money. A grant of $218,212 to the Elliot Lake Food Bank for building renovations.

Sudbury commercial waste workers remain on the picket lines over pay concerns. Action started Friday. While waste collection services for businesses and apartment buildings are affected, residential garbage and recycling pickup continues uninterrupted.

The Toronto Blue Jays are bringing Academy Week to Northern Ontario. They go from July 22 to 25, hosting youth clinics for kids aged 8–12 making stops in Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie Timmins and North Bay.
