Greater Sudbury Police are seeking the public’s help to locate a missing person. “Patricia” is age 35, standing 5-8 and weighing 130 pounds, with a slender build, dark, wavy brown hair with red ends, and brown eyes.

It’s budget time in Callander township… and public input is being sought. On Tuesday, September 9, council wants to hear from residents where the funds should go.

The town of FAUQUIER-STRICKLAND is considering a considerable property tax hike… which could be as high as 80 per cent. If it goes ahead it would all be to help the township with its finances.

A new space race is gaining attention in Northern Ontario. The non-profit, Launch Canada, is hosting the only permitted experimental student rocketry event in the country on Mattagami First Nation land. The event aims to inspire hundreds of students to become the next generation of rocket scientists for Canada’s growing aerospace industry.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he’s willing to financially backstop Algoma Steel to diversify its product mix. The goal would be to go back into its decades-old catalogue of offerings. Ford made frequent mention of the Sault Ste. Marie sheet and plate producer during a funding announcement in Hamilton, Aug. 20th.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this week to launch the Kingsway Employment District in Sudbury, with a waste management company the first to move into the site. The Kingsway property once upon a time to be the location for a new $100 million arena, alongside a casino and hotel. Since then, council has agreed to a cost-sharing agreement to build a new road at the KED to spur the development of an industrial area.

Cinéfest Sudbury has announced a second round of official selections; an early look into what this year’s film programming has to offer. In the list, John Candy. A documentary on the Canadian icon called “I like me” exploring the life of the Canadian comedic icon.,

North Bay City Council has posted expense reports online. This means North Bay residents can now view the financial records of the Mayor and Councilors through an online portal that discloses quarterly and annual expense reports.

Provincial funding changes are coming to the Iroquois Falls area. Specifically to replace the South Centennial Manor. It means the new South Centennial Manor will finally be under construction by next spring, behind Anson General Hospital in Iroquois Falls.

Meanwhile SSM Paramedics say they have been able to help with patient payloads, cutting delays almost in half at Sault Area Hospital. This means ambulance crews are now waiting less time to transfer patients at hospitals and steps are being taken to keep the process going.

In Elliot Lake, the Rogers Arena needs $11.6M in upgrades. At least, that’s according to an architect’s report this week in a package to council. Upgrades would be needed for safety, code,
accessibility, and other upgrades

Pay parking is coming to Temagami, but not just yet. At its August latest council meeting, a bylaw was proposed which would require drivers parking in the downtown core to pay $5 for up to four hours parking and $8 to park all day.
