The latest report estimates the number of new home builds will be higher over the next three years but will gradually return to historical averages after that.
With election days in the rear-view mirror, at least now… Several local campaigns in this year’s provincial election Sudbury say they were able to operate with extremely low budgets, or no budgets at all. The deadline for constituency associations and candidates to file their financials with Elections Ontario was last week.
Two new wildfires have been reported in the Northeast Regio. According to the latest from the Ministry of Natural Resources’ Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services, North Bay 16 measures 0.1 of a hectare. It is approximately 12 kilometers northwest of Temagami, the other, North Bay 17 measures 3 hectares and is located on an island 10 kilometers southwest of Latchford.
Thankfully no one was hurt in a Tuesday mid-morning fire on Middleton Ave. in Timmins. A dog and some other pets were saved by firefighters. The cause is yet undetermined.
Meanwhile a two-vehicle collision closed down part of the Bruce and Albert Street East intersection this morning in Sault Ste Marie, as many were headed back to work after the long weekend. Police and fire vehicles had blocked off Albert St. E heading east for a time. There is no word as to injuries nor the cause.
Daynara Cyr of Manitoulin Secondary School and Izabella Guenette of Lasalle Secondary School will serve as Student Trustees on Rainbow District School Board for the 2025-2026 School Year. Daynara Cyr will also serve as Vice-Chair of the Indigenous Student Trustee Council for the Ontario Student Trustee Association (OSTA).
Members of the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club in Sudbury have voted in favort of selling to property. It’s all part of the Health Sciences North expantion. The vote came is with 77.5 per cent in favour of the sale.

Highway 69 repairs begin this week between Sudbury and Parry Sound. The MTO says it’s trying to minimize impacts on travellers, but there will be some flagging and lane closures.

The Timmins’ Golden Manor redevelopment continues as walls go up. The new 192-bed Golden Manor redevelopment is at the corner of Jubilee Avenue and Theriault Boulevard will replace the city’s current long-term care home.
Volunteers Sault Ste Marie is invited to participate in a litter cleanup. It’s slated take place Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Fort Creek Conservation Area.
