
Speed cameras get in Sudbury are getting Police endorsement. Both Greater Sudbury Police Board chair and Chief Sara Cunningham expressed support for the city’s automated speed-enforcement cameras this week, despite some pushback from Doug Ford.
North Bay Fire & Emergency Services is reminding residents about the dangers of leaving household appliances running while unattended. This follows two recent fires involving two oscillating fans left unattended.
Its business as usual in Porquis in the IQ falls area. This is following an evacuation late Sunday morning following an incident on the rail line that runs alongside the small community. Reportedly, a tanker car was leaking propane. The incident has been deemed resolved. People were allowed to go home and the road into the community was reopened.

Human and bear interactions have kept police busy so far this month with calls coming in. One detachment reports 65 such calls ad counting. The OPP is urging residents in the region to take steps to reduce bear attractants and to reduce the chances of an encounter with a bruin.
Air Canada says it will end service in North Bay as of Jan. 30, 2026. The news was part of a series of changes the airline announced in a news release, adding that the decision was driven by what they’re calling “commercial viability reasons.”

Sault city council will be asked on Monday to increase the fees charged to non-residents to use city-owned recreational facilities. A resolution will asking city staff to look into either increasing fees or striking community-to-community agreements with surrounding townships.
