
The City of Greater Sudbury is authorized to proceed with a series of parking improvements in downtown Sudbury’s south end. This work, which comes at a budgeted cost of $500,000, will include lighting, delineation of parking spaces, signs and line painting.
The North Bay Police Service headquarters will have an electrical upgrade. The project, which includes a number of factors, has been budgeted at around $1.2 million.
The chair and vice-chair positions have been acclaimed for the District School Board Ontario North East.. At DSB1’s meeting this week, Jonathan Byer was acclaimed as the board chair, with Crystal Hewey taking the vice-chair’s seat.
Meanwhile, a longstanding member of the Sault Ste Marie city’s police service has ascended the ranks. Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Deputy Chief William Freeman was officially appointed to the role during today’s meeting of the Police Services Board, after inking a four-year contract.
Gore Bay council has approved user fee increases for several of its facilities such as the arena, community hall and the marina. The 2026 town rate book identifies all user revenues from town operations.

Sudbury has secured $546K from the province for traffic calming measures. This is the first of two rounds of funding the City of Greater Sudbury is eligible to apply for in the wake of the province cancelling automated speed enforcement cameras.
West Nipissing council has voted in favour of installing a new traffic light at the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 575. It lands in Verner, about a 12-minute drive east o f Sturgeon Falls. It is now under the Ministry of Transportation to make a final decision.
Timmins Police Service have taken over the investigation into what caused a fire in a vacant, boarded-up house Tuesday on Spruce St. S. Firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 3:00pm. They worked quickly to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjacent buildings.
Sault Ste. Marie Police have located a teen who had been reported missing. Brody Small was last seen at around 12:40 p.m. on Saturday in the 600 block of Second Line West. He has been located in good health.
Timmins Police have looked into a hole in the ice on Gillies Lake. This is following multiple reports of kids and teenagers walking across the ice surface. Police again say while the urge is there it’s still far to early to be out on the ice.
