
After a series of cuts and draws from reserves, Sudbury city council members capped 2026 budget deliberations with a 3.9-per-cent tax levy hike. The Sudbury Police Service’s 10.21-per-cent budget hike accounts for more than half of this total. As part of greater Sudbury budget deliberations, Sudbury council has added four firefighters, and two mechanical officers. This is in addition to new security staff for Greater Sudbury Housing.
Sudbury Police say downtown patrols are making a difference. The evidence, in part, is all due to reduced open air drug use. The goal, she said, was to bring in officers to link people living on the streets with substance abuse and mental health issues to social services.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is looking for the help of the community to find a missing teen. Mya Johnson is 15. She was last seen around 11:10 p.m. on Dec. 3 in the 1500 block of Wellington Street East wearing a black winter jacket and winter boots, grey sweatpants, and a blue hoodie. Mya is described as approximately 5’2″ tall with a thin build, long straight black hair, and blue eyes.

Timmins City council has approved the fleet program budget for 2026. To the tune of nearly 3 million dollars it comes after a vote this week as part of ongoing budget discussions. Fleet refers to all vehicles and heavy equipment used by the City of Timmins and its employees.
Sault Area Hospital patients, visitors and the public will pay more for parking. $1.50 specifically. Effective Dec. 31, per exit fee will increase from $6 to $7.50.
The Manitoulin Municipal Association (MMA) is requesting more sailing time for it’s ferry. They’re asking the Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC) and the province to return to four daily sailings of the M.S. Chi-Cheemaun during the peak summer sailing season.
