Greater Sudbury firefighters are getting a raise. As of Jan. 1, a provincial arbitrator has ruled that wages for first-class firefighters will rise from the current amount, just north of $110k ($110,371) they received in 2024, to $199,000.
Meanwhile, Kirkland Lake Fire Services is hoping for another green December as it has launched its annual Christmas wreath campaign. The long-running safety effort tracks December fire calls using a wreath with 31 bulbs. Each time a preventable fire occurs, a green bulb is replaced with a red one.

The North Bay Police Service have sworn in two experienced officers. Constable Elizabeth Bell is returning to NBPS, along with Constable Charles Goulard. Both bring extensive experience and strong ties to the community.

Sault Police hope to determine the whereabouts of 14-year-old Brody Small. The teen was last seen around the John Rhodes Community Centre on the afternoon of Nov. 29. Small is described as approximately 5’3″ tall with a slender build, black hair, brown eyes, wearing a long dark grey and green winter coat, tall winter boots, and a camouflage sweater.

Sault College offers a range of certificate, diploma, degree, apprenticeship, and micro-credential programs aligned with current and emerging labour market needs.

Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) is projecting a significant deficit in its budget. The deficit as of the end of October was $1.15 million. Contributing to this deficit includes historical one-time funding seen in prior years (from the provincial government) not being funded this year. The discussion is on how to close the gap.
