In keeping with the season, All Nations Church’s presentation of The Living Nativity wraps tonight on the grounds of Science North, with the presentation commencing at 7:30 p.m. All Nations Church will also present a special fireworks presentation occurring after the show on Christmas Eve.

In keeping with the season, food hampers and gifts moved steadily out the doors of Canadore College’s Commerce Court campus this week as volunteers braved the winter weather to complete the Santa Fund’s annual delivery day. The deliveries marked the final step in the events 78th year.

2026 will be a year of sporting events with the Olympics and world Cup… and the Ontario Mining Cup. Many in Timmins are already prepping for the annual mining industry ice hockey tournament held at the McIntyre Arena. Proceeds from the tournament go towards scholarships, bursaries and awards.

There were thankfully no injuries following a fire at a residence in Elliot Lake yesterday afternoon. It happened on Tokyo Crescent around 4:20pm. Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior attack and the fire was brought under control by 5:30pm. The cause has been identified as careless smoking.

In keeping with the season, the Sault café initiative has once again supplied turkey boxes to Algoma families for holidays. This year 45 was the number that went out the door. It was done in connection through the Children’s Aid Society with support from more than a dozen local businesses.

While it may be Christmas Eve, maintenance work keeps right on chugging and the city is thanking residents for their patience following a Water Service Disruption & Road Closure Notice yesterday. It happened on Wellington Street N in Liskeard, Between Wellington Street N and Church Street.

Municipal tipping fees are going up. Although there are various user fees at the city’s landfill sites, one that sticks out is a per-ton tipping fee hike of more than 27 per cent, from $106 per ton to $135. Other fee hikes are along similar lines, including a 100 kg or less fl at fee hike of more than 21 per cent, from $3.50 to $4.25. That said, the $5 gate fee, which remains unchanged.

New construction across North Bay added more than $36 million in new property value in 2025. That’s the latest according to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. The notable increase is part of a broader trend across the Province of Ontario, where MPAC reports more than $125 billion in new property assessments between 2022 and this year.

The city of Timmins is weathering out the back half of an extreme cold weather alert. Yesterday the city pointed out the mercury was expected to drop overnight to -25 C with the windchill. The advisories are put out when the weather is expected to drop below -25 C, including windchill, and those in need were redirected to warming shelters, including the Living Space, at 316 Spruce St. S.

The township says come the new year there will be at least one new face in town. On the first official business day of 2026, the town of Cochrane will have a new chief administrative officer. The mayor says Daniel Gagnon brings a wealth of municipal leadership, having played pivotal roles in a couple major projects in Elliot Lake. He takes the seat January 5th.

It’s Recycling day for those in Colman Township. While it would normally go tomorrow – tomorrow being Christmas Day, it’s been rerouted a day early to today, Christmas Eve. In addition, the city of Timiskaming Shores says the Township Office is closed starting today. It is expected to reopen on Tuesday, January 6, after the Christmas Break. Residents and businessses are being thanked for their patience.
