New beds coming to Ontario Hospitals

Health sciences North in Greater Sudbury is getting new beds. It was announced from Toronto this week that the province is creating 1,200 new beds in hospitals across Ontario in an effort to address overcrowded wards. 18 of those will be heading to HSN, and they’re not alone. North Bay, Timmins, and Sault Ste. Marie will each receive eight.

Teens charged following fight

Three teens have been charged following a schoolyard fight. Espanola Police Service were called to the city’s high school regarding an assault that had occurred. Evidently, students had assaulted two other students during the lunch recess, while a third student had posted threatening messages. The teens were all between the ages of 13 and 15. One person’s nose was broken in the incident.

Firearms seized, game bird, in blitz

A number of firearms have been seized by Greater Sudbury Police, along with a game bird. This was all done during a joint operational blitz north of Capreol. A total of 117 vehicles and off-road vehicles were checked resulting in six provincial offences notices. In all, 89 firearms were inspected.

39-year-old charged for theft in rented truck

A 39-year-old woman has been charged for entering an unlocked garage at a residence on Prince Edward Drive in North Bay. Constable Rich Debeau says she allegedly stole a number of items…

There were numerous items seized from within the truck believed to be stolen from various properties.

60k for leaf and yard debris removal

Dealing with leaf and yard waste in Sault Ste. Marie residents is estimated to cost residents. $60,000. This is for having bagged leaves and debris picked up by city crews. It was discussed this week at city council, and councillor won’t decide whether to add that cost to the operational budget until budget deliberations.

MP Charlie Angus bringing Sears workers to Ottawa

The Sears fight once again came to through door of Parliament this week. Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus says Liberal government needs to take strong corrective action to protect Sears workers.

Angus says earlier this year, Sears attempted to suspend dental, health and pension benefits to employees while paying $9.2 million in corporate bonuses.
