The Sudbury is developing a flood waste relief program to support residential property owners affected by flooding. It’s specifically for those who don’t have flood insurance. The program aims to help residents manage flood-related waste and support recovery efforts.

The North Bay and District Humane Society is seeking adopters. This is as kitten season is overwhelming the shelter. In addition, a shortage of accessible and affordable spay and neuter services in Northern Ontario is causing issues for shelters across the board.

The deadline in Timmins to apply for summer sport grant money is coming up. Parents and guardians of children eligible for Sports For Kids funding must apply by June 1 for summer and fall sports. While summer sport funding is closed, people can still apply for other sports.

Elliot Lake residents encouraged to be bear-wise. In addition to other steps, such as limiting birdfeeders, garbage must be placed in sealed plastic bags in metal or plastic containers with a secured lid and placed outside no earlier than 6 a.m. on collection day.

OPP says online police record check turnaround times have dropped to about 10 days. The Ontario Provincial Police say wait times for online police record checks have fallen dramatically after months of delays that stretched into the double digits for residents.

More than 40 search and rescue volunteers from across the province were taking part in training exercises up in Hiawatha Highlands this weekend. Sault Search and Rescue coordinated the exercises, which consisted of three different mock scenarios.

Mine rescue competitions are coming this May. Used as a learning tool for mine rescue volunteers, the goal is continual improvement. Winning teams from each district competition will advance to the Ontario Mine Rescue provincial championship, to be held Jun 8 – 12 in Sudbury.
