Timmins Residents who have a desire to get out and about before February rolls into March will have their chance. It’s taking shape through a hike through the bush at Hersey Lake. The Wintergreen Fund for Conservation will be hosting a winter Hiking Day in partnership with the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority (MRCA) at Hersey Lake Conservation Area on Sunday, Feb. 22.
The hikes will be guided so they will get some information about the nature in the area and how plants and animals have adapted to survive the cold in the northern winters. There are going to be guided hikes available as the Wintergreen group has experienced hikers that will be doing a shorter walking hike, a longer walking hike and a snowshoe hike as well. The event will also feature presentations from Timmins Porcupine Search and Rescue and the Timmins Fur Council. Registration is not required and it’s open to anyone who wants to take part. Hersey Lake Conservation Area is located about five kilometres north of Algonquin Boulevard on Highway 655. For more information, call the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority at 705-360-2660.
