No new cases of COVID-19 again in Greater Sudbury… again

Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported no new cases of COVID-19 for the third day in a row yesterday. Six active cases being watched locally.

The Active COVID-19 case count for the PHU area has dropped to the lowest point in three months with 45 as of news time. Health unit holding mobile clinics for homebound residents.
 

A tent city in Greater Sudbury has been dismantled

A tent city Greater Sudbury has been dismantled. It was in Memorial Park. Bylaw officers attended Memorial Park to assist. “Transit tickets were also offered to those in need of transportation. People also had the option to have the city store their personal items for pick up at the CP Rail parking lot on Elgin Street.
 

Vehicle fire, not an arson, say police

North Bay police and firefighters have determined that a vehicle fire on Pinewood Park Drive was not an act of arson. It happened early last week. City police and North Bay Fire and Emergency Services had conducted a joint investigation into the vehicle fire, and say they have not as of yet determined a cause.
 

Second of Langmuir closed near South Porcupine

A section of Langmuir Road in the Timmins area will be temporarily closed this week. Shutting down Thursday, July 8 to Saturday, July 10. It starts at the 11-kilometre marker from South Porcupine and is to allow for routine maintenance at the Redstone River Bridge, according to the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry.
 

One new forest fire in the North East – Cochrane 18

One new forest fire has been confirmed in the northeast region. Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services stated in a release issued today that Cochrane 18, is located approximately 80 kilometres east of Attawapiskat, and is being observed at 5 hectares. Currently, there are six other active fires in the region. Of these, one is being held and five are considered to be under control.
 

NIP-U wins “Blackboard Catalyst” Award

Nipissing University has won the prestigious Blackboard Catalyst Award. The only Canadian university to do so, the post-secondary school’s Teaching Hub was honoured in the student success category. The recognition comes from Blackboard Inc., a global EdTech software and solutions company.

Sault Police warning of a scam

Sault Ste Marie Police are warning residents of a scam. Someone has been calling pretending to be from Cloverland stating a bill is past due, and demanding payment by phone. Callers have used a fake name and have even mentioned a Cloverland truck number. Cloverland reassures residents they would never call and demand immediate action or threaten a member of the public.
