Energy Minister announces funding for HSN

Energy Minister and Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault says the Province is doing more, when it comes to health care. Just under $1.3 million more to be exact, in funding headed to Health Sciences North to help the hospital fund energy efficiency projects. This is apart of a larger project that will see hospitals upgrade things like heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
 

The cost of water, on the agenda

Water will be on the agenda this week for North Bay city council. More specifically, a hike in the water and sewer budget increase of nearly two per cent will go before council for approval tonight. The move, with rate adjustments, will add about $46 to the average annual bill – based on a monthly consumption of 14 cubic metres – for a total of $984 starting Jan. 1.
 

Regulating Gas Prices coming to Queen’s Park

Gas Prices will see more discussion in Queen’s Park before the end of the year. At least, that’s according to Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson. He has introduced a Private Member’s Bill, to see gas prices regulated throughout Ontario. Bisson told the press this week, drivers are hit with huge differentials, even within the same region.
 

Traffic congestion getting a closer look

The City of Sault Ste. Marie says more needs to be discovered, when it comes to traffic congestion in the area around Second Line and Great Northern Road intersection.  A public information session is scheduled, and a traffic study to investigate a solution has been launched. The meeting will be Nov. 30 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Russ Ramsay Board Room at the Civic Centre to hear comments and suggestions from residents. All are welcome to attend this session as City staff and Consultants will be available to discuss the project.
 

3 Rinks closing, another opening…

Sudbury City council will discuss a number issues, ahead of the 2018 budget. Among the most controversial proposals, will be to close three rinks in Greater Sudbury: one of the two ice pads in Capreol; the Centennial Arena in Hanmer; and, one in Val Caron. In their place a new arena would be built in Valley East with two ice pads at a cost of roughly $24 million.
 

More work on Pace-way for 2018

Finesses enthusiasts may soon be able to go further in North Bay. The city says they’re seeking bids for the environmental assessment, to potentially extend the Kate Pace Way from Memorial Drive to Gormanville Road. The hope is to have the process completed by the spring, so the project could be tendered in time for construction to take place in 2018.
