Record year for ice?

This year could be a record breaking year, when it comes to the presence of Ice in North Bay. More specifically, in the water. Pilots with Helicopters Canada, which operates a flight training and charter service in North Bay, say there’s plenty of white ice on Nipissing. If the ice stays around until the 19th, it will be the latest date Nipissing was declared ice-free, since the 1920’s.
 

Street Sweeping Underway

A note to Sudbury Drivers headed out this morning. Street Sweeping and full clean up efforts are underway on the following streets – Notre Dame Ave., Lasalle Blvd., Falconbridge Rd., Second Ave., Atlee Ave., Auger Ave., and Gemmel St. This is all to ensure the Sudbury Rocks Marathon route is ready to go for runners on Sunday.
 

Fire hazard high in Sudbury

Forest Fire season remains active in the North East Region. Out of a number of fires, A blaze known as Timmins 1 was confirmed on the afternoon of this week, covering an area of 6.9 hectares. It is said to be under control. The fire hazard level is high in areas of areas south of Temiskaming Shores in the Province, and Greater Sudbury.
 

One group tries to put the cap on Nestle

In Sault Ste. Maire, a group known as the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians say they’ve declared a moratorium on Nestle bottled water products. In a unanimous vote the group says that nestle is making an unacceptable withdrawal of water from the Great Lakes. It’s board of director says the groups isn’t even paying for the water they take, and while there are some without acceptable drinking water, nestle is take it out [of the Great Lakes] for a profit.
 

Truck fire, no injures

Thankfully there were no injuries, following a vehicle fire yesterday in Greater Sudbury. This is after a tractor trailor truck burst into flames on the highway east of the city. Hwy17 near Warren was reduced to one lane. The Highway has since reopened.
 

Conflict resolution management at Nip U.

Well, in almost every relationship conflict arises, and Nippising University says they’d like to lend a hand. This is all surround a seminar. Bob Pipe is with NIP and explains.

Titled Unleashing the Potential of Conflict Resolution at Home and Abroad, the lecture takes place on Friday, May 11, from 7 – 8 p.m. at the Monastery (room M106). The workshop, Intro to Conflict Management Training, will run on Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Monastery (room M106).
