Wild fire approaches a section of the Trans Canada

Community members in Parry Sound remain on notice as a wild fire approaches Highway 69. The blaze, known as Parry Sound 33 that sprung up on July 18 continues to be fought down by Ontario firefighters with help from counterparts from other provinces, as well as the United States and Mexico. Highway 69 is a key transportation link, connecting Sudbury to Toronto and southern Ontario. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says that out of 39 active forest fires across the northeast 12 are not yet under control.
 

More candidates file for Mayor’s Seat

The run for Mayor’s seat in Sudbury has now reached a full dozen. Bill Sanders joined a field of 11 candidates vying to unseat incumbent mayor Brian Bigger. Sanders, in addition to a number of position, is against The Kingsway location, telling reporters that the new arena needs to be built downtown.
Meanwhile, Mike Guillemette has added his name to run as North Bay Mayor. Born and raised in Northern Ontario, Guillemette says he has lived and worked in North Bay and area for more than 20 years. Guillemette is the fifth candidate to take the Mayor’s seat will run against incumbent Mayor Al McDonald, Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette, Will Boissoin and Gary Gardiner.
 

Suspect wanted in Gas Theft

The Greater Sudbury Police Service continue their search for a man wanted for gas theft. Not once, but three times, a man was seen at a Val Caron gas station, filling up his vehicle only to leave, allegedly without paying. In each incident, the vehicle’s licence plates were intentionally covered. The value of the stolen fuel is more than $150. The suspect drives a silver four-door Nissan Versa Hatchback.

 

Suspected sought, following puppy theft

The Timmins and District Humane Society is looking for the public’s assistance in regard to two stolen puppies. They say that this is after unknown suspects broke into the Timmins and District Humane Society, located on Mahoney Road, and remove the two puppies from their kennels. These eight-week-old, female, mixed breed pups, known as Paris and Azur. The puppies are described as Labrador/German Shepherd/Boxer mixes.
 

Fire fighters respond to couch smoldering

Sault Ste. Marie firefighters found themselves dousing a couch residence at a 6th Ave home. While the details of the fire itself have not been released, the residence was ventilated, according to reports. While there was no one was injured, upon an investigation, no working smoke alarms were found on the main floor or an upstairs apartment.
 

North Bay residents could smell a smoke in the air today

Those in the North Bay area could smell smoke on their way to work this morning, and environment Canada explains why. They say a special air quality statement is in effect for North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa and West Nipissing. Smoke from Parry Sound 33, a large forest fire west of Key River, is causing poor air quality and reduced visibilities, says Environment Canada.
