Parry Sound 33 reaches 10,000 hectares

According to the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services division says that the blaze known as Parry Sound 33 is now just kilometres away from Highway 69 and less than one kilometre away from the Pickerel River. What’s more, is that the blaze is now over 10,000 hectares in size. The Municipality of French River has already issued an evacuation alert for the Alban area while setting up sprinklers systems to protect structures along the French River on Hartley Bay Road.
Meanwhile,
Environment Canada has issued a Special air quality statement in effect for North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa – West Nipissing and the French River areas. They say smoke from the fire, while a threat to a number of communities, is causing poor air quality and reducing visibility. These higher pollution levels may persist for the next few days.
