Single Family home severely damaged by fire

A single-family home was also severely damaged in a mid-afternoon blaze in Greater Sudbury yesterday. Sudbury Fire services say that when they arrived at the Sandy Cove Road residence, the one-story house was “fully involved”. They say a firefighter was injured in the work to put the fire out. The damage has been pegged at ¼ of a million dollars.
 

Two drivers pegged for speeding through school zones

A reminder, regarding driver and pedestrian safety is being  handed out this week. This is after North Bay Police say they caught not one driver, but two, speeding though the Community Safety Zone on Marshall Avenue while the amber lights were flashing to indicate that the speed is reduced to 40 km/hour. The highest registered speed was 65 km per hour.
 

Trees may be saved after all – Timmins

It looks as though the majority of trees in Hollinger Park… may very well stay where they are after all. Contrary to its original plans, the city of Timmins says that the vast majority of existing trees in Hollinger Park will not have to be removed as a result of a revitalization project that is currently underway in the park. With Hollinger Park is undergoing a major facelift, the city says they will be providing regular updates as work progresses.
 

Sault Ste. Marie Airport setting new records

New records continue to be set, as aircraft leaving the ground in Sault Ste. Marie. Just over 20,900 passengers flew to and from the Sault Ste. Marie Airport in August 2018 for an increase of 4.28 per cent over August 2017. Along with other numbers, this provides for a new 12 month record for the airport overall.
 

Two tickets handed out, drivers fail to stop for the school bus

As the Province prepares to close out the first week of school, here in the North drivers are being told once again to watch for the bus. In the first four days, Mattawa OPP say they’ve already issued 2 tickets to drivers for failing to stop for the school bus. The first ticket was issued during the morning run, and the second, during the drive home. For a first offence, fines range from $400 to $2,000.
 

Man charged after going through vehicles, checking shed doors

A 43-year-old Timmins man has been taken into custody, after he was found, allegedly going at least one vehicle… that did not belong to him. The call came in regarding the suspect, spotted going through vehicles up Cedar Street North and down Eighth Avenue. Subsequent to that Police say he was also checking shed doors. He was stopped and arrested in a residential area near the intersection of Drew and Cedar Street North.
