Crews respond to another major fire in Sault Ste. Marie
Fire and Emergency personnel remain on scene this morning at the site of a major fire in Sault Ste. Marie. The fire that started up on the 3rd floor 89 Hudson Street I believed to have originated in a 3rd floor apartment. No major injuries have been reported. A city bus is also on scene to provide a temporary shelter for those in need as is the Canadian Red Cross. This is second major blaze in the downtown area in less than two weeks. The two fire scenes are just over a kilometer apart.
L.U. recognized with National Award
Higher levels of learning have received recognition in Sudbury. Specifically, for the Laurentian University Science Communication Graduate Program. The program that is offered in partnership with Science North, has been presented with the Royal Canadian Institute for Science’s William Edmond Logan Award. The award honours coast to coast, excellence in promoting the public understanding of science by a Canadian organization.
Driver collides with Police Car
Thankfully there were no injuries in a vehicle accident involving a police car. It happened yesterday morning in North Bay. While the details of what lead to the crash have not been released, the driver of the other car, a young male driver blew a warning on a roadside screening device.
Doody honored in building naming
The Timmins Museum, National Exhibition Centre board has a new honorary member. Mike Doody. Noted for decades of community service, the long-time city councillor/one-time mayor was approved the designation this past week. Doody has been involved with the museum since the sod-turning for its first building.
More snow coming for Northern Ontario
After rain, wind and ice… snow, and plenty of it is coming for Northern Ontario. Environment Canada says that 15 to 25 centimetres of snow and blowing snow are possible. This is all thanks to a low-pressure system brewing over the southern plains in the U.S. may intensify into a winter storm as it tracks over southern Ontario Tuesday. Environment Canada says this could all have a major impact of travel.
Two buses wind up in the ditch
Drivers are reminded to slow down ahead of some incoming winter weather. This is after not one, but two Ontario Northland buses wound up in the ditch. The first accident happened between South Baymouth to Gore Bay Friday morning. The second incident happened on Highway 11 between Cochrane and Kapuskasing. Thankfully there were no major injuries.
