Overhaul to Transit Services going ahead

An overhaul plan for Transit services in Greater Sudbury is going ahead. City council approved the Greater Sudbury Transit Action Plan, the changes represent two years worth of work, representing the first changes to the transit system since the city amalgamated in 2001. Starting in August of this year, the tweaking of bus routes, and all-day passes some of the changes being discussed.
 

Concrete Company fined 200k in the death of worker

Rainbow Concrete in Greater Sudbury has been convicted in the deaths on one their of workers. Rhéal Dionne was killed in 2017 in an accident involving his dump truck at Rainbow’s Maley Drive location. Rainbow Concrete and its owner were charged last summer. The company will pay $200,000 in fines to the family.
 

Garage fire sends one to Hospital

Garage fire on Hector street in Val Therese. 1 Male who was working in his garage at the time. He was sent to hospital and later released. Two houses close by also suffered damage.
 

Prime Minister makes a stop in Greater Sudbury

Snow or no, the Prime Minister was in Greater Sudbury today. Justin Trudeau will be doing a tour of the Maley Drive extension project. A third of the $80.1-million project is being funding by the federal government. He will be alongside Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré and Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre.
 

Mining efforts to restore inoperable mine shaft

Mining efforts in Timmins are drilling deeper into 2019 – 2010. Spsifially, through a two-year, $100-million investment is increasing productivity at a Timmins gold mine. Mayor George Perie says the project speaks to two things:

The project expanded an inoperable 300-metre shaft to a 1,080-metre production shaft.
 

King back as board chair with DSSAB

North Bay city Councillor is back in the seat as Nipissing District Social Services Administration Board chair. This is after a controversy involving a bylaw previously put in place by the DSSAB. King was re-elected to a fifth term as chair several weeks ago in a 6-5 vote. King did not resign as chair but rather stepped aside while the issue was resolved.

Passenger rail plan “derailed” with lack of funding.

Passenger rail service restoration between Cochrane and Toronto may have come to a screeching hault. “All Aboard Northern Ontario” says a lack of money has stalled work on compiling a case to present to both senior levels of government. The group was counting on financial support from municipalities all along the line however, only Timiskaming and Northeastern Ontario Municipal Associations have contributed.
