Restaurant roof collapses under the weight of snow

There were no injuries… however, another roof has come down, due to the sheer weight of this year’s snowfall. It happened in North Bay yesterday evening at the Auntie Jane’s Diner in the Main Gate Plaza. The call was received shortly before 6:30 p.m. Firefighters secured the scene while natural gas and hydro crews cut off services to the business.
 

Mall re-opens following snow removal

The Market Mall in Sault Ste. Marie has reopened, following snow removal. This is after closing on the weekend due to snow volumes on its roof. The property owner says “all measures’ have been taken and there are no “hazardous conditions” to those inside or outside the building. A number of inspections, including one from the city, have been done.
 

Tennis classic coming back to Greater Sudbury

The city of Greater Sudbury is ready to serve up another round of tennis. The Northern Ontario Tennis Classic is coming back to the Nickle City and will add several more participants for the second edition of the tournament. Among the names? Canadian tennis legend Daniel Nestor. Nestor is the recently-retired professional doubles player with seven Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal to his credit. It will be held at the Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre in April.

Western Nova Scotia could be blanketed by up to 40 cm of snow, while parts of parts of Western Canada are bracing for extremely cold temperatures this weekend. Here in Northern Ontario, with warmer temperatures coming into the weekend, Sue Buckle from the North Bay Mattawa conservation authority says, some are starting to think about flooding…
