Pothole claims are piling up

Drivers are well in the throws of pothole season, and claims to the city of Greater Sudbury are now coming in. In Greater Sudbury alone over 150 claims of all types are being filed. Everything from property damage, to motor vehicle damage to personal injury, is being filed.

KED continues to move forward, despite opposition

Despite an onslaught of opposition, and 12 appeals… the city is moving forward with a number of large projects. We spoke to Mayor Brian Bigger this week who says the projects include,

Speaking to council Tuesday about the Kingsway Entertainment District, the city’s CAO said the city has not heard anything from the Local Provincial Appeals Tribunal. To date, the city has spent nearly $1.8 million on the KED, or 1.8 per cent of the project budget.

The Go Blue initiative involves three components: to only drink water for the day, to research the importance of protecting our water supply, and to find ways to conserve water at home.
 

North Bay applies for infrastructure funding

The city of North will apply for infrastructure funding announced by the federal and provincial governments. Under the 10-year, $30-billion program, each level of government will pay one third each to advance infrastructure projects. The first phase deals with road, bridge, air and marine infrastructure.
 

18-year-old makes a court appearance

An 18-year-old College Notre Dame student charged with threats against staff and students has been released on bail. He appeared in bail court yesterday and has since been released on a $1,000 recognizance into the supervision of his father, who will be acting as surety.
 

Laser complaint investigated

The North Bay City police are investigating after a complaint from North Bay’s Jack Garland Airport. At around 9:30 last night a laser light was directed at an aircraft during a landing approach. Police are warning that those who point lasers at aircraft can be criminally charged.

Records for snowfall continue

As Spring slowly sets in, snow removal continues across Northern Ontario in a number of place. In Timmins throughout the month… Mayor George Perie says it hasn’t been without its cost.

More snow is expected for Northern Ontario before the end of the Month.
