One new case of COVID-19 in the North East
One new case of COVID-19 has reported to Algoma Public Health. The health unit says the exposure is unknown but does involve a staffer at the Ontario Finnish Resthome. The individual is self-isolating, and their close contacts have been notified.
112 new cases of COVID-19 for Sunday, and one death
Public Health Ontario confirmed 112 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday and one new death. The latest person to die with COVID was an individual between 60 and 79 years old. Yesterday, the Porcupine Health Unit confirmed the death of a man in his 70s in Timmins due to complications related to the COVID-19 virus. He tested positive on July 19. Of today’s 112 new cases, there are 54 individuals between the ages of 20 and 39 years old.
Callander taking the lead on bylaw enforcement
Callander’s fire department is taking the lead on bylaw enforcement for that area. The development is the result of town council making permeant a pilot project dating back to 2019. This is also after the bylaw enforcement officer put in 20 hours a week, four hours a day.
One woman injured, and baby safe in a duplex fire
A baby is safe, but one woman received injuries following a St. Joseph Street duplex fire in Greater Sudbury. It happened early yesterday. While the cause of the fire is not immediately apparent, a truck already in the area and able to respond. Upon arrival crews discovered people were trapped on the balcony of the burning duplex. Bystanders were able to lower the baby to safety, while two adults had to be brought down by ladder. All three were transported to Health Sciences North.
24-year-old speeder pulled off the road
A Greater Sudbury Police officer has pulled another speeder off the road. This is after an offer intercepted a 24-year-old driver rocketing along at 177 km/h in an 80 zone. The accused pulled over on Barrydowne Road. The driver was charged with stunt driving and the vehicle impounded.
Dobbin named new Granite Club lead
The North Bay Granite Club has a new lead. Stacy Dobbin has been named the new general manager. Dobbin, who was the office manager at the facility for the past two years, joined the club in 2014. Dobbin replaces Bobby Ray, who held the position for 10 years.
