Laurentian University is putting out quite the ask all to get their pool up and running. $25 million to fix and modernize the facility, closed since 2020. Still recovering from its insolvency earlier this decade, Laurentian has said it doesn’t have the money to fix its on-campus pool, which is in need of repairs.

The North Bay Police Service is planning to roll out a new online reporting system in the new year. Similar to reporting systems have already been put in place in larger police organizations including the OPP, Peel Regional Police and Sudbury. It means that concerns can be reported to Police from home.

Work is continuing to make way for a new subdivision in the Timmins area. A contract worth just over $126,500 ($126,516) has been given to clear trees for the Melrose Heights subdivision. The cost is being covered by the $9 million the city received through the Housing Enabling Water System Fund.

Elliot Lake is seeking increased support for arena repairs. Personnel from the city were at the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs 2026 Pre-Budget Consultations held in Sudbury this past week. The goal =was to request that the Committee make recommendations to increase the allocation to the Province’s Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund for this coming year.

Firefighters have put out a request for residents. Please clear off the fire hydrants in your area. Evidently there have been instances when Firefighters must take to a quick dig to find the hydrants which has delayed operations due to natural snow fall or residents covering them while clearing their property.
