Algoma Public Health has confirmed 1 new case of COVID-19
Algoma Public Health has confirmed a new COVID-19 case in the Algoma region. While little information is known, close contacts have been notified, and the person is currently self-isolating.
Post secondary school students will be included in counts
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit will begin including post-secondary students living in the district in its COVID-19 case count. A statement Wednesday from the health unit says traditionally, many students move to the district to attend school locally. That said, there are currently no active cases in the catchment area.

North Bay’s COVID-19 assessment centre is ramping up COVID-19 testing. The goal is to bring numbers up to 400 a day, which for a city the size of North Bay is a notable number. There are currently no active cases in the catchment area.
Choppers in the sky, seeing program under way
Vale’s annual aerial seeding program is underway. Taking place until Oct. 9 those near Wahnapitae may notice low-flying helicopters. The program that has been in operation since 1990 targets barren land requiring reclamation around the company’s operations.
Maroosis will fill the vacant seat on city council
Former North Bay city councillor George Maroosis will fill the vacant seat on city council. After officially declaring the seat vacant Tuesday council voted unanimously to appoint Maroosis as a councillor, having been the 11th-place candidate in the 2018 municipal election. He has accepted and a byelection will not be held.
No girls basketball or boys football, golf and cross country a go
The Rainbow district school board says there will be no boys football or girls basketball this fall, due to prolonged or deliberate contact. That said flag football, golf, cross-country running, volleyball and baseball are all making the cut. That said a number of COVID-19 protocols will be in place.
Tisdale Public School tear down almost complete
Work to tear down the former Tisdale Public Works shop in Timmins is nearing completion. The facility on Evans Street is the third city-owned building to be demolished by the Salvage Kings reality TV show which airs on the History Channel.
