4 routes cancelled for this week in Greater Sudbury

Now more than a month into the school year, four school bus routes in Greater Sudbury remain cancelled due to staffing issues. As it stands now, six have been partially cancelled for next week as many drivers have not returned due to COVID-19.
 

5-hour stand off ends peacefully

A 5-hour sand off between in Mattawa has come to an end peacefully. The OPP tactics and rescue unit, crisis negotiators, emergency response team and canine (K9) unit were called to a residence on Main Street in Mattawa shortly after 2 am Monday. The incident was resolved peacefully at about 7 am. No injuries were reported and one person is in custody.
 

1 new case of COVID-19 in South Porcupine this weekend

Over the weekend, the Porcupine Health Unit reported a new case of COVID-19. The case affects an individual in local catchment area who is age 19 or younger. The individual, who is currently in self-isolation, was tested on Oct. 6 and was confirmed to be a positive case on Saturday.
 

Sault Ste Marie council asked to pick up repair bill for grader

Sault Ste. Marie City Council will be asked to approve a repair bill after a leased road grader was damaged. Billed at $111,800 it happened during winter maintenance earlier in the year. Councillors will be asked to take the amount from this winter’s snow-removal budget to pay for repairs done before the snow flies.
 

225 meals served to those in need this weekend

More than 225 Thanksgiving meals were served to those in need this past weekend in North Bay, and all in the course of 90 minutes. It happened at the Gathering Place Monday. The North Bay Crisis Centre also served 25 meals for its guests.
 

Accident sends two to hospital Thanksgiving Monday

A traffic accident has sent two to hospital in Sault Ste Marie. It occurred at the corner of Bruce Street and Wellington Street East at around the dinner hour yesterday. According to witnesses on the scene, a westbound vehicle collided with a northbound vehicle at the intersection. Police are investigating.

Additional screening measures in place at North Bay city hall

Bay City Hall will now come with enhanced COVID-19 screening. In addition to mandatory use of face coverings, everyone entering City Hall will be subject to COVID-19 screening questions and a ‘no touch’ temperature check. Anyone experiencing symptoms of the virus, or who have an elevated temperature will not be permitted.
 

Angus calling for aid for Northern Ontario Airports

Timmins James Bay MP Charlie ANGUS is calling on the Government to step up for Northern Airports. It’s all to provide federal aid so airports can continue operating without impairing what Angus calls their “import roll” as COVID-19 has had a devastating financial impact.

Angus says Northern airports remain on the front lines for medical services, food transportation and dealing with fire refugees.
