Outbreak of COVID-19 declared at Secondary School in Greater Sudbury

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School in Greater Sudbury after a third student tested positive for the virus. As per provincial direction, a school outbreak is declared if there are two or more cases in a school that are linked and if there is evidence that at least one case could have been infected in the school. Five classes have been dismissed at the school until Nov. 5. The school remains open.
 

Another case of COVID-19 in Greater Sudbury

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting a new case of COVID-19, the second new case of the day for Oct. 26. The latest case has been determined to have been in close contact with another known case of COVID-19. The individual is currently self-isolating.
 

Teen charged with having house party with 40 – 50 kids

An unnamed 18-year-old East Ferris is facing an $800 fine after OPP were called to a house party Saturday. The call came in right before midnight, and upon arrival Police found 40 to 50 youths all under the age of 20. Under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA), limits indoor social gatherings are limited to 10 or fewer people.
 

Missing Teen being sought in Sault Ste Marie

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is requesting the help of the public to locat a missing teen. 16 year old Kaitana Biron was last seen Oct. 23 in the 700 block of Great Northern Road. She is described as 5’3″ with a thin build, brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink zip-up sweater, black track pants, and flip-flops. She is known to frequent the downtown area.
 

Renewed call for pedestrian crossing on Algonquin Ave in North Bay

A renewed call is going out for a pedestrian crossing on Algonquin Avenue in North Bay. This is after a new crossing is being installed on Main Street West. Three people have lost their lives following collisions on Algonquin in the past four-years.
 

27-year old with four incidents of theft from vehicles

Kirkland Lake OPP have laid charges in a string of theft regarding motor vehicles. It’s allegedly happened over the past few months. A 27 year old has been tied to four separate incidents occurring from August to October. They will be in court in December.

NBRHC paid parking starts again next week

Get your spare change ready… paid parking at the North Bay Regional Health Centre resumes next week. The hospital waived its parking fees in the spring as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting Monday, parking fees will be reinstated at its three visitor lots.
 

Twin pad project in Sault Ste Marie on hold

Sault Ste Marie city council has puts the twin pad project at the W.J. McMeeken Centre on hold until budget time. While the public interest is there, city councilors said this week, they want to see what the 2021 budget numbers will look like before they decide whether to move forward with the $28.2 million project.
