One new case of COVID-19 announced for the APH
Another new case of COVID-19 has been discovered in the Algoma District, says Algoma Public Health. Thus far the APH doesn’t know where the person in this case came into contact with the virus. They are in isolation.
Conservation Sudbury issues a flood watch
Conservation Sudbury has issued a flood watch for the Wanapitei Rive. Downstream of Lake Wanapitei, the water safety messaging is being maintained for all other watercourses within the City of Greater Sudbury. They will be in effect until Nov. 2nd
Suspect steals empty cash register
A 26-year-old from Timmins is facing charges following a break, enter and theft. This stems from incidents where a local business was broken into, including a convenience store. The suspect allegedly gained entry by forcing the main door open, they then fled with an empty cash register before being taken into custody.
Ledo Hotel closes, 13 looking for accommodations
Sudbury’s Ledo Hotel is now working with social services to find accommodations for 13 people in Greater Sudbury. This is after the rooming house was closed due to safety concerns. Fire crews were called to the building on Sunday morning to deal a fire in once of the units. They also noted several safety concerns, including water leaks and issues with the fire alarm system.
HCR gives notices of possible layoffs
Huron Central Railway has given notice to 43 of its employees that their positions will be terminated should the railway cease operations in December. The railway services runs between Sault Ste Marie and Greater Sudbury. The company is waiting on Ottawa and Queen’s Park to put together a $40-million package for track maintenance and safety upgrades to the 288-kilometre line. Genesee & Wyoming Inc. had originally planned to cease operations of the railway in March, but extended the timeline due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vehicle “out of control” slams into two others
North Bay Police Service is investigating after a car collided with two vehicles in separate driveways on Gormanville Road Tuesday afternoon. It happened in the 500 block at around 3:00pm. Witnesses say a black-coloured vehicle, driving south down Gormanville Road, appeared to lose control in the 500 block area before striking a pickup and an orange SUV. No one was in the two vehicles at the time of the collision and police say no pedestrians were hit. Two occupants were taken to hospital by ambulance for precautionary reasons.
