Outbreak declared at the Porcupine Health Unit’s Hearst office.

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Porcupine Health Unit’s Hearst office. According to the health unit, two employees have tested positive and the cases are related. As a result of the outbreak, the Hearst office is temporarily closed. Staff of the office are currently at home in self-isolation and contact tracing and follow up is being conducted.
 

Pools in Greater Sudbury continuing to slowly reopen

The City of Greater Sudbury is beginning its next phase of restarting programming at fitness centres and pools. Classes will be shortened, and group sizes will be smaller. The next phase of lessons begins Nov. 2. Evidently, private, and semi-private options will be running.
 

North Bay city council $175k for a design plan for roadway

North Bay council has awarded a $175,000 contract for design work related to the rehabilitation of parts of Trout Lake Road. The estimated $3.5-million project will see 1.6 kilometres rehabilitated from Mountainview Drive to Lees Road. The project also is expected to include the construction of bike lanes on either side of the roadway.
 

Dr. Loo appointed as APH Medical Officer of Health/CEO

Dr. Jennifer Loo, has been appointed as Algoma’s new Medical Officer of Health/CEO. Dr. Loo has served as the Associate Medical Officer of Health since August 2017. Effective Jan. 1, 2021, she will take the helm at APH.
 

Speeder busted after passing OPP officer

A Sudbury woman caught speeding on Highway 69 by OPP. She was first spotted when she passed OPP patrol officer going at a high rate of speed as dinged by the radar. She then made a sudden lane change in front of officer forcing him to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The 47-year-old will have her day in court in December.
 

New funding will go to fight “Online Crime”

North Bay Police are getting a funding boost to fight online crime. Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced funding yesterday. The $99,216 will be used to upgrade technology and training to improve investigations of online crimes like, harassment and fraud.

Put your phone away – Sudbury Police

Greater Sudbury Police are reminding drivers to keep their phone off and away when driving. This is as officers, dressed in plain clothes, have been doing blitzes at stoplights in a number of intersections such as Lasalle and Barry down road. As part of a recent imitative, they’ve handed out over 70 tickets for drivers on their phones.
