Three new cases of COVID-19 in Greater Sudbury
Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting three new cases of COVID-19. They are all in Greater Sudbury. Each new case is as a result of close contact with another confirmed case. All three are self-isolating.
Johnson area community arena will not open this year
Johnson Township Council east Sault Ste Marie says the community’s arena will not open this year for usual winter events. With a recent increase of COVID-19 cases in Algoma, the council says it could not “properly meet” staffing and protocol requirements.
New park, seating area coming to North Bay in 2021
A new walkway, seating area and gardens are slated to open in North Bay. Pegged for the spring of 2021, it’s being spearheaded by the North Bay Heritage Gardeners and began late in the Summer. The Heritage Gardeners received funding from the federal government for the Seeds of Diversity and Inclusion Project.
Legion Branch says there will be no Remembrance Day at Memorial Gardens
Legion Branch 23 in North Bay says there will be no Remembrance Day ceremony at Memorial Gardens. Its all due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. A ceremony is being planned for the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day but there will be restrictions.
King Street Fire deemed “Suspicious”
A fire at a five-unit apartment building on King Street in Greater Sudbury has been deemed suspicious. It happened Monday. It’s been determined the fire started in the building’s basement, in the laundry room/furnace/storage area of the structure. The damage has been pegged at around $250,000 to $300,000.
Gateway house to receive 20 new beds in North Bay
Gateway House in North Bay is slated to receive more beds. The transitional housing project in the former Ontario Provincial Police station on Chippewa Street is located steps away from the city’s emergency shelter. Gateway House was slated to have 16 transitional units, and now 20 more are being added.

No reopening date for Archie Dillion Sportsplex
The Archie Dillon Sportsplex remains closed. It was closed earlier this year because of COVID-19 and was originally slated to reopen in August but has since been pushed back. This is all as roof work continues. There is no word as to when it could reopen.
