Two new cases of COVID-19 cases in Northern Ontario
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting one new case of COVID-19 in Nipissing District. It involves a person between 40 and 59 years of age, who is currently isolating.

Algoma Public Health has confirmed a new COVID-19 case in the Algoma district. The health unit has determined the exposure category to be international travel. Close contacts are being notified.
COVID-19 outbreak declared at Matachewan mine site
In addition to new case counts of COVID-19 announced in by The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit and the Algoma Health Unit, a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at a Matachewan mine site. According to the Timiskaming Health Unit, three employees have tested positive. All three people live outside of the health unit area.
Garson Man ditches car in the pond to avoid a moose
A 37-year-old man from Garson has narrowly avoided a collision with a moose, but his evasive action landed him in a pond off Highway 535. It happened near Noelville. The man was able to climb onto the roof where he was rescued by French River fire personnel.
Hold and secure put into place for North Bay High school
The Near North District School Board says West Ferris Secondary School was placed in a hold and secure near the end of school yesterday. The board says it was all due to a trespasser on the property. Police attended and safely handled the situation. The hold and secure was lifted roughly 15 minutes later.
Shelters could be open 7-days a week
Greater Sudbury’s warming shelter spaces could soon be open seven days a week. This is following a directive to city staff by the finance and administration committee. The goal would be to open as soon as possible. Under the current system, warming shelters in Greater Sudbury are only opened on nights when extreme cold alerts are issued.
East Algoma OPP stop suspected impaired driver
East Algoma OPP were called a grocery store parking lot this week on Hwy 108, in relation to an erratic driver. A small pickup truck entered the parking lot and nearly collided with pedestrians. The truck drove around the lot and eventually parked. However, while attempting to park, it collided with another vehicle in the lot. A 46-year-old is facing changes. OPP are warning of the dangers of driving impaired.
