Detours in place following major accident in Greater Sudbury

Detours are in place following a major accident in Greater Sudbury. It happened just before 4:00am. The roadway is closed between Balsam Street in Copper Cliff and Big Nickel Mine Road and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
Meanwhile a multi-vehicle collision slowed traffic yesterday in Sault Ste Marie. It happened at around 2:30 p.m. at corner of Wellington Street and Second Line. Services remained on scene for approximately an hour. There was no word on injuries. An ambulance was witnessed departing the scene.
 

$3.7 heading to Canadore College and Nipissing University

The Ontario Government is investing over $3.7M in funding to help Canadore College and Nipissing University address various capital issues. The funding was announced yesterday by MPP Vic Fedeli. The money will address maintenance backlog, help undertake critical repairs.
 

North Bay city staff reach a 5-year agreement

North Bay City staff have reached a new labour deal through the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 122-1. The new five-year deal runs from January 1 of 2021 to December 31, 2024. Members of the union will see increases starting with a 1.6 percent wage increase next year.
 

New dog park now open in Greater Sudbury

Sudbury’s newest dog park is ready to go. The third for the city, it is located in the South End, beside the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex. The York Street K9 Club will be responsible for maintaining park, and keeping a tight leash on the rules.
 

Water issues will continue for some in South Porcupine

Some homes in South Porcupine will be without water until this afternoon, because of watermain repairs. It affects some homes on William Avenue from Legion Drive to Moore Street. Repairs are expected to be complete by this afternoon at 4.
 

Virtual forum on homelessness planned

Greater Sudbury is planning virtual forum on homelessness. With colder temperatures on the way, the hope is to hear from groups that work with some of the city’s most vulnerable citizens. Staff will lay out the logistics of the town hall at next month’s council meeting.

Northern College looking for input. It’s all through an online survey. College is now seeking information, training partner interest, and input from the healthcare, mining, and forestry sectors. It will provide critical information about the sector’s employment trends and forecasted needs. It’s open until December 9th.
 

Heath Unit – Stay active this winter

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has put out a recommendation for the winter: Stay active. While they do stress physical distancing, it’s too easy to bunker down as many activities are not running, and they’re point residents to uncongested outdoor areas, and skating rinks when they open.
