A number of COVID-19 cases tracked over the weekend.
A Northern Ontario school has been closed, in Cochrane. Ecole Nouveau Regard. This is following a what the health unit calls as probable COVID-19 case. Two more are being investigated by the Porcupine Health Unit in regards to the K-to-12 school. The closing in collaboration with the health unit is exercising an abundance of caution.
Meanwhile, among the case count from the weekend into today a student at Central Manitoulin Public School on Manitoulin Island has tested positive for COVID-19. The Rainbow District School Board notified parents about the case on Sunday. One class at the school has also been asked to self-isolate until Dec. 19.

Meanwhile, the Porcupine Health Unit is reporting what they call one “probable case” of COVID-19. The individual resides in the area of Matheson, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Smooth Rock Falls and is self isolating. Public Health Ontario reported 1,925 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is a new record high.
Finally, The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit reported three new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend. An update Monday morning from the health unit shows the new cases include one person between 40 and 59 years of age, a person 19 years of age or younger and an individual 80 years of age or older. All were exposed to COVID-19 through close contact with a case and are isolating at home.
City of North Bay managing revenue loss over 2020
The city of North Bay says their transit system has suffered a 50 percent revenue loss due to the pandemic, but now a they’re hoping a new dynamic dispatch system will help. During recent Operating Budget discussions, city staff outlined the transit system’s economic outlook heading into the 2021 budget. That said, city staff is budgeting less money into transit in 2021.
Caboose in Timmins back on the rails
Rail is back in Timmins… kind of. Two short pieces of rail have returned to community donated to the museum. Standing on them is a genuine Ontario Northland caboose, next to the Hollinger house. Workers at The Bucket Shop have been working to restoring it.
Parkside opens to house meals in Greater Sudbury
Parkside Centre in Greater Sudbury is looking to open its doors to those in need. Located in the YMCA building in the downtown core, it will provide dining space where people can eat takeout meals from two area Soup Kitchens.
Fire destroys Barn in Prince Township
No one was injured in a structure fire in Prince Township. The call came in just before 10pm Saturday in the 2000 block of Base Line. When personnel arrived they arrived, they found a large storage barn was in flames. Fire crews had the fire under control within two hours, with tanker support from Sault Fire Services. The building and its contents were completely destroyed.
Booth road closed for two-weeks in North Bay
Booth Road between Lakeshore Drive and Ferris Drive in North Bay is closed for construction. The closure will be for approximately two weeks. The closure is due to infrastructure repairs.

Laurentian Ski Hill in North Bay is eyeing a mid December opening. Despite the pandemic, many skiers are either returning or signing up for the first time. They’re looking at opening Dec. 19. Antoine Mountain in Mattawa is expected to open Boxing Day.
HSN announces new beds for flu season
HSN in Greater Sudbury is looking to open more beds. In response to chronic overcrowding made worse by the pandemic, and in anticipation of flu season, the hospital will open at least 40 additional beds next month.
