North Bay fire respond to fire set at North Gate Shopping Centre

North Bay Police are fire are telling the public to steer clear away from the North Gate Shopping centre this morning. This is after fire was agedly set at the entrance to the mall from the parking garage shortly after 3:30 a.m. Fire personnel are still on scene. It is not known at this time if operations at the mall will be affected by the fire.
 

Snow is coming for North Bay and area

Environment Canada says snow and plenty of it could be coming for parts of North Eastern Ontario, most notably for areas of North Bay – West Nipissing, Témiscamingue, Burk’s Falls, Deep River, Whitney, and Eastern Algonquin Park .10 to 25 cm of snow is expected this weekend all thanks to a Texas Low. The approaching system will spread snow across the Bruce Peninsula and along the French River to the Quebec border.
 

Grant applications open for Greater Sudbury Arts and Culture program

Looking ahead into the new year, applications for the 2021 Greater Sudbury Arts and Culture Grant program are now open. Those with the program indicate that operating grants will be limited to past applicants to focus on recovery efforts, but do add that the application process for project grants remains unchanged.
 

A shift in animal services, pound services could save thousands

A shift that will divide animal control services and pound services in the city of Timmins should save the significant funds. A report presented to council this week indicates that once the change is in place, it could generate a savings of just over $31,600. The savings would be for both the department and the city.
 

Employment levels rising in Sault Ste Marie

Sault Ste. Marie’s employment numbers have arisen to pre-pandemic levels. While cautious optimism grows, unemployment continues to fall. This is all according to the 2020 Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey. Sault Ste. Marie’s unemployment rate in November 2020 was 6.3 per cent compared to 8.5 per cent for Canada and 9.1 per cent for Ontario. That shows a steady improvement over the last three months, down from a high of 11.1 per cent in July.
 

Stobies #9 mine shaft has been blasted

Sudbury’s Number Nine Shaft at the Stobie Mine has been blasted. Vale brought down the iconic tower yesterday. The structure, put up in 1966, consisted of solid concrete and stood 95 metres high. This is all part of the disassembling of the mine, which has been decommissioned.

Missing Teen: 14-year-old Jaela Kyle

The Timmins Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing teen. 14-year-old Jaela Kyle was last seen mid-day of Dec. 10 2020 in South Porcupine. She is described as a Caucasian female, 5’3 tall, with blue eyes, black shoulder-length hair with blue streaks, with a piercing on upper lip. She was last seen wearing a dark hoodie, light-colored pants with red designs, black and white checkered shoes, a bandana and carrying a light brown back pack.
