Police asking drivers to stop running amber lights

The OPP are reminding drivers to pack a little extra time out and about this afternoon. This is following a rash of drivers running amber lights, or a light that turns from yellow to red while the driver is in the intersection. A release over the weekend indicates that drivers who fail to do this may face a charge of, “Amber Light – Fail to Stop” and be issued a $180 fine with three demerit points. In addition, pedestrians who fail to use crosswalks at the intersection could also be charged under the Highway Traffic Act and be issued a $50 fine.
