Daycare in Garson closes due to COVID-19 case

A daycare in Garson has closed after a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. Letters went out to families of the Discovery Early Learning and Care centre at St. John Elementary School. The staff member is self isolating.
 

8-new cases of COVID-19 announced by APH

Algoma Public Health is reporting eight new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region. Of the new cases, seven are from central and east Algoma and one is from the Elliot Lake area.
 

Clinic to aid those dealing with substance use opens

A new clinic specializing in substance use disorders has opened in Sault Ste Marie. It’s in the downtown on Queen Street. It’s already been able to assist 130 clients for its outpatient services.
 

Timmins sees boost in gas-tax funding

The City of Timmins is receiving a slight increase, when it comes to the provincial gas tax. This year Timmins will receive just over $668,000. That’s just over $15,000 more than the city received for 2019-20. The gas tax goes to 109 municipalities eligible for the program and supports infrastructure.
 

NSHIN in Blind River puts out new visiting restrictions

The North Shore Health Network in Blind River says as of Monday, new visiting requirements are going into place. Among the new restrictions is a limit on the length of visits. There are already some restrictions in place as to who can visit and when. A full release from the North Shore Health Network is on their webpage.
 

North Bay foodbank able to weather the second shut-down

The North Bay Food Bank says despite the second shut down, they’re ready. While they have assisted served nearly 130 adults and families this year, they will be able to handle an increase in service.

Seat of late council declared empty, new deputy Mayor appointed

East Ferris declared the council seat previously occupied, vacant. It was held by the late Mike Voyer vacant. This week, Coun. Steve Trahan was appointed the new deputy mayor. Voyer, whose work including a fourth term on council, passed away at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice on Christmas eve of last year.
 

Don’t modify your exhaust – Timmins Police

The Timmins Police Service is issuing a public advisory. Evidently area snowmobilers have altered or modified their exhaust system, which… is an offence an offence under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act. It carries with it a $110 fine.
