COVID-19 case numbers in Ontario continue to drop… but there’s no word yet as to whether this is a new trend. The 1,670 new cases are down from the 1,740 reported by the province a day earlier. The case load has not been under 1,700 in two months.
Of the case numbers today in Northern Ontario,
Public Health Sudbury and districts say 5 new cases were registered. All 5 were in Greater Sudbury. 3 are linked to contact with a confirmed case.
In vaccine news,
Algoma Public Health says they will have now received and will be administering its first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. It will be heading to long-term care home residents first. The hope is that more than 1,000 LTCH residents will be given the first dose of the vaccine over the next two weeks.
In education,
Two Greater Sudbury schools have reopened, following COVID-19 shut downs, and two remain closed. St. David elementary and St-Denis French Catholic were closed last week after a number of people tested positive and there wasn’t enough staff to open the school safely. They are expected to re-open on Monday.
