Two hunters facing 5-charges including violating the stay-at-home order

Two Southern Ontario Hunters are facing several fines after camping and rabbit hunting north of Capreol. This was after Police received a call from the Sudbury Trail Plan reporting a vehicle on a club trail. An officer and the MNR responded. The two from Aurora have been given fines under the Trespass to Property Act, violating the Stay-at-Home Order, and having a loaded firearm in the vehicle.
 

New taxi and ridesharing bylaw now in effect

A new bylaw for ride sharing and taxis is now in effect in North Bay. The process, two and a half years in the making is now complete, after being approved by the board in December, while the bylaw covers North Bay only, but also applies to vehicles coming into the city from other municipalities.
 

Green light given on report for arena/event centre

Sudbury city council have given staff the green light for staff to proceed with preparing a report on potential sites for an arena/events centre. That comes with a cost however of up to $125,000. The costs associated with the report will be designated to acquiring third party expertise from PricewaterhouseCoopers, with the report to be brought back to council in June.
 

Reopening of rinks and trails will get another look next week

The reopening of skating rinks, tobogganing hills and snowmobile trails in for the North Bay region will get another look next week. Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical Officer of Health said in a media conference yesterday the hold off comes as an outbreak has been declared Lancelot Apartment buildings, which, as of 3 pm yesterday had infected 19 residents and two visitors.

The snow mobile season in the Algoma area is at full throttle. This is after a reported fifteen groomers worked to tame the snow fall from the weekend. This comes after more than a month with little to no new snow.
 

Report of LU books could take 6 – 8 weeks

Sault Ste. Marie MPP and Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, Ross Romano says an investigation probing the financial problems at Laurentian University will take six to eight weeks. The Post Secondary school filed for creditor protection earlier this month amid what it called “unprecedented” challenges after years of financial strain.

East Ferris looking into leasing space on potential medical centre

The Municipality of East Ferris is now looking into the potential of leasing commercial space from a proposed medical centre. It’s at the corner of Astorville and Corbeil roads. A notice released by the municipality aims to gauge interested and the feasibility with proceeding with both the development of the medical centre while seeking medical professionals, corporations and business owners who can provide such services.
