Ontario reports 1,072 new cases of COVID-19

Ontario health officials are reporting fewer than 1,100 new cases of COVID-19 for the second straight day. Officials recorded 1,072 new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday. A slight increase from the 1,022 new cases, which marked the lowest daily total reported since November.

In Greater Sudbury
HSN says non-urgent and elective surgeries are being postponed. This is after an outbreak at the Hospital in Sudbury due to a COVID-19. The outbreak was declared at Health Sciences North over the weekend, after 1 staff and two patients tested positive for the virus. Since then an additional staff member and two patients also tested positive. The outbreak is on two hallways of the hospital’s 6th floor.

In North Bay
Students at Sunset Public School in North Bay were dismissed this week and will remain out of school effective immediately until Feb. 22. The dismissal is related to the COVID-19 variant of concern and is a cautionary measure to reduce the spread of the virus. While some students had already been dismissed, all other students will move to a learn-at-home model and are asked to monitor for symptoms.

In today’s cases
Amongst those numbers 5 new cases have been registered in Greater Sudbury, while one new case was reported in the Nipissing area.
Meanwhile Public Health Sudbury & Districts has declared the COVID-19 outbreak at St. Charles College over. All classes were able to resume as of yesterday.
