Greater Sudbury reviewing fire services

The city of Greater Sudbury is reviewing fire services in Greater Sudbury. It has to do with the distribution of its fire stations. At Tuesday’s meeting of the finance committee, councilors voted to spend nearly $200,000 to engage a UK-based consulting firm to look at the optimal distribution of the city’s two dozen fire halls.
 

Additional Charges laid after 2nd sweep of Reginald Street Apartment

Greater Sudbury police have laid addition charges… after officers found more than 30 additional explosives during a second search of an apartment on Reginald Street. It’s all connected to the weapons complaint on Feb. 5. Officers were able to safely remove, detonate and dispose of them. A result, a 36-year-old woman was arrested.
 

City of North Bay “Pre-Applying” for construction of new twin-pad arena

The City of North Bay has begun a pre-qualification process for the construction of a new twin-pad arena. It would be at Steve Omischl Sports Field Complex. The facility, which is to include two ice pads, a walking track, barrier-free change rooms, some of which can expand, and a multi-purpose room, was approved earlier this month by council as part of the city’s 2021 budget.
 

OPP and Fire services knock down a garbage fire

Temiskaming OPP and the Cobalt Fire Department were quick to knock down a garbage bin fire yesterday. It happened on Nickel Street, in the Town of Cobalt. While no one was injured, police are seeking information as the fire has been deemed suspicious.
 

Multiple speeders pulled stopped on Highway 101

Police have netted a number of speeders on highway 101 in South Porcupine. Nine drivers in all were ticketed by city police on Highway 101 in South Porcupine for pushing speed limits by at least 26 km/h. The six-hour enforcement initiative was aimed at taking the weels out from the persistent speeding issue through the Harold Avenue area.

When the weather does warm… South River and Sundridge should have access to a skateboard park. The Village of South River now has enough money in place to buy the necessary equipment, lay down the concrete pad and buy benches. The modest park that will go at Dufferin Street Park. The funds were rallied in part by the local Lions Club.

Travel advisory in effect

A travel advisory in effect for: SAULT STE. MARIE – ST. JOSEPH ISLAND, SEARCHMONT and area. Lake effect snow bands and heavy flurries were expected into the area move into this morning. As a result, travel may become hazardous at times and visibility could be reduced.
