Two Greater Sudbury Schools dismissed due to COVID-19
All students and staff at Lasalle Secondary School and Cyril Varney Public School have been dismissed following five positive cases of COVID-19, all of which have screened positive for variants of concern (VOC). They will be dismissed up until and March 4th. Public Health Sudbury and Districts says it is a precautionary measure.
Further details: All staff and students of Lasalle, Cyril Varney, and anyone on elementary bus route N100’s afternoon route from Feb. 16 to 18, are advised to self-isolate and seek testing for COVID-19.
Travel advisory issued for Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury and North Bay
Drivers will need to pack a little extra time today in the Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, and North Bay areas. A potent Alberta Clipper will track across central Lake Huron today bringing heavy snow. Accumulating snow will cause poor driving conditions, and impact travel throughout the day.
Marier Street is in Azilda is back open following a motor vehicle pedestrian collision. It happened just after 8pm yesterday. The pedestrian has been transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. There is no word as to what led to the accident.
Nav Canada conducting review at Sault Ste Marie Airport
Nav Canada is reviewing seven airport towers in small Canadian cities, including Sault Ste. Marie. The non-profit body that runs the country’s civil air navigation service, indicates the purpose of the review is whether air traffic at the airports warrants having a control tower as opposed to an advisory service for pilots.
Greater Sudbury Police looking: 31-year-old Andrew Martin
Greater Sudbury Police continue to seek the assistance of the public in the search for a missing man. 31-year-old Andrew Martin. He was last seen on Bruce Avenue, but was possibly sited in the area of Lake Nepahwin. Greater Sudbury Police will be canvassing that area today, looking for video surveillance.
Officers will also ask area residents for permission to check outbuildings on private property as Andrew may have taken shelter. Andrew is described as being 5-7 tall, weighing around 190 lbs., with stocky build, brown eyes, shaved head and a thick goatee.
Watch for Coyotes – Ontario MNR
Ontario’s MNR is giving residents in urban areas of Timmins and Greater Sudbury to watch for coyotes. While its not clear how many sightings as of yet have been reported, its is mating season, and the hunt for food, is driving them closer to residential areas.
Outbreak at LTC home in Kapuskasing over
More than a month after an outbreak was declared at Extendicare Kapuskasing, all the cases are resolved, according to the facility. Yesterday into today, the long-term care home reported no new COVID-19 cases. All of the previously reported cases have been declared resolved.
