Sudbury, Manitoulin, Espanola and area enter lockdown.

Public Health Sudbury and Districts is now in Lockdown. The Grey designation went into affect today at 12:01am. Details are HERE. Among the COVID-19 numbers yesterday, the health unit has announced 55 new cases of COVID-19 9 of which have tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, ALL schools in Greater Sudbury and the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts, with the exception of Chapleau area schools will to transition to virtual learning, effective Monday, March 15.
 

New cases of COVID-19 along with new exposure warnings

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit reported one new case of COVID-19 Thursday. It is in the Nipissing District (60-79 years of age). Meanwhile, Algoma Public Health reported one new case of COVID-19 yesterday. It is in the Sault Ste Marie area. It was a result of a close contact.
A potential low-risk COVID-19 exposure advisory has been issued for Mount Jamieson Resort in Timmins. It is for people at the resort Sunday, March 7 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Elsewhere, a potential high-risk of exposure to COVID-19 has been announced on Manitoulin Island. It for anyone who attended 662 Crosshill Road in M’Chigeeng First Nation on Saturday, March 6, and Sunday, March 7, 2021. Anyone who attended the address on Saturday or Sunday should monitor for symptoms.
 

High winds damage equipment, close resort

High winds yesterday have damaged a transformer forcing the closure of Antoine Mountain just outside Mattawa. The power will be out until 4pm today. The resort will reopen Saturday.
 

Keep it clean!  Elliot lake has a new bylaw

Elliot Lake City Council has passed a new yard cleanup bylaw. Dealing with maintenance and care of yards to keep them clean, it’s all to keep them free from debris, garbage and long grass once the snow melts. The hope is to relieve orders for individual sites.
 

Vaccinations starting at Lancelot Apartments

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit says its vaccination team has started offering a first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to residents. The action is in response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at the apartment building. Of the caseload, twenty-one cases related to this outbreak have been confirmed to be of the COVID-19 variant originating from South Africa.
 

Don’t hang up on 9-1-1 say Police

Hold the phone say North Bay Police. This is after a number of 9-1-1 hangup calls. In recent, an average of 10 to 15 9-1-1 hang-ups are being reported. Police say it’s better to hang on the line, and explain an error.

Royal Bank in Sault Ste Marie closing two branches, opening one

The Royal Bank of Canada is preparing to permanently close two branches is Sault Ste Marie. 602 Queen St. E. and 312 Second Line W. will close in July. This is preceding a new “state-of-the-art” RBC branch in the heart of Sault Ste. Marie’s big-box retail district on Great Northern Road.
