Another COVID-19 outbreak at HSN

Health Sciences North (HSN) is currently monitoring an outbreak of COVID-19. It is on the 4th floor of the South Tower of the Ramsey Lake Health Centre. This outbreak is separate and distinct from the one declared on 6 South on Friday March 12.
 

COVID-19 funding to aid Greater Sudbury venerable

The Ontario government is providing $1,5 million in funding to the City of Greater Sudbury. This funding is in response to an increase in COVID-19 cases in some emergency shelters, and is to help keep vulnerable people safe. This brings the total of homeless shelter Covid-Related funding to the City of Sudbury to $4,6 million.
 

Snow mobile season over in North Bay

The North Bay Snowmobile Club has ended snowmobile season for their trails. Mild weather causing bare trails, rocks poking through and no new snow in the forecast. In addition, last week’s wind storm caused lake stakes to fall over with no snow coverage.
 

Vaccination clinics in North Bay, Timmins

The Algoma District School Board is reporting reported cases of COVID-19 in individuals associated with Central Algoma Secondary School. As a result, all secondary students at CASS be moving to remote learning this week. Algoma Public Health is in the process of identifying close contacts.
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is scheduling a COVID-19 vaccine schedule for those individuals 80-years-of age and older. The clinics are being held in North Bay at Memorial Gardens, at the Sundridge Strong Joly Arena, the Mike Rodden Arena in Mattawa. Residents can book their appointment starting Monday at 9 a.m. by calling the health unit at 1-800-563-2808 option 5 or online at https://ontario.ca/bookvaccine
Meanwhile, new vaccination clinics are coming up for Indigenous adults in Timmins. They are for those 55 years of age and older. Bookings for appointments open this week with clinics happening at the Mountjoy Arena in Timmins Wednesday March 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments are required and walk-ins will not be accepted.  Appointments can be booked online here or by calling 1-800-461-1818.  Other Booking is open.

• Kapuskasing Sports Palace – Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Matheson Curling Club – Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Cochrane Pavilion – Monday, March 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Iroquois Falls Community Centre – Tuesday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There are also upcoming clinics in the region for community members 80 and over.
 

Missing Woman: 31-year-old Jessica Villeneuve

Greater Sudbury Police are looking for a missing woman. 31-year-old Jessica Villeneuve. She was last seen at 1:30pm Friday, at the Petro pass gas station on Highway 69 in Greater Sudbury, hitchhiking into the city. Jessica is described as being 5’6″ tall, weighing around 125 lbs., with long brown/red hair and blue eyes. Jessica was last seen wearing a black winter coat with fur around the hood, dark pants and black winter boots with light brown boots.
 

St. Vincent Place folding shelter aid for men in the fall

St. Vincent Place in Sault Ste Marie will no longer offer emergency housing for men, starting this fall. It’s all due to a lack of staff, and the related training. Those beds will move to the former Sacred Heart school. Clients will be helped by Canadian Mental Health Association staff.

No ice is safe ice – OPP

North Bay OPP have responded to a second of two incidents where vehicles have gone through the ice. Both incidents happened on Lake Nipissing. There was no reported injury. Police are reminding the public to stay off the ice as Temperatures continue to rise.
