HSN receives its first COVID-19 patients

Health Sciences North received its first two COVID-19 patients from southern Ontario on Wednesday and more are expected. Toronto-area hospitals being hit hard by the third wave of COVID, and several critically ill patients have been moved to other parts of the province.
Meanwhile, Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported 11 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, and 21 resolved cases. There were also 11 recent cases had screened positive for variants of concern.
Elsewhere, after two days of no new cases, the North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit reports three new cases of COVID-19 yesterday.
While, Algoma Public Health reported three new cases of COVID-19, all from Sault Ste. Marie and area. Two caught the virus from close contact. It’s unknown how the other person caught the virus.
 

COVID-19 warning issued for Timmins Walmart

A potential COVID-19 exposure advisory has been issued in Timmins. Its for those who used the Walmart Supercentre online grocery service.
It is for April 5 to 7, April 9 to 10, and April 13 to April 15.
The exposure is low risk and those who used the service should self-monitor for symptoms.
 

Sault Ste Marie attempting to bolster voting for next year

For when the next Municipal election does come around, the city of Sault Ste Marie indicates efforts are underway on how to better engage residents, encouraging them to vote. Voter turnout in the 2018 municipal election was at 40.3 percent, which was at the low end of the provincial average.
 

Construction season has begun in Timmins

Construction season in Timmins has begun. Drivers will need to take their time on Algonquin at the intersection at Mattagami Boulevard, traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction, causing delays. Work is also being done on Spruce Street North from 6th Avenue to 7th Avenue. And Algonquin Boulevard West at Fogg Street North, to Riverside Drive, to Pavillion Drive. Traffic is reduced to one lane due to construction
 

No injuries following an early morning fire in North Bay

There were, thankfully, no injuries in an early morning fire on McIntyre Street West in North Bay. Crews arrived shortly after 5:30 at the location in the 200-block of McIntyre Street W. after a neighbour reported smoke coming from the building across from North Bay City Hall. Firefighters forced entry into the abandoned building and extinguished the blaze in the basement. The fire is under investigation.
 

Watermain break repairs discolour water in Elliot Lake

There is a large water main break that slowed traffic in Elliot Lake late yesterday. It happened in front of Soo Mill. The expectation is to start digging at approximately 9 p.m. with repairs going into the night. This break could cause water pressure issues and discoloured water throughout the City this morning.
