Ontario’s Stay at home order could be extended – Health Minister

Ontario’s deputy premier says the government will likely extend the province’s current stay-at-home order, which is set to expire next week. Despite the fact that Ontario reported the lowest number of new COVID-19 cases in nearly six weeks yesterday, Elliott says experts are currently advising the government to “stay the course”. Elliott says while COVID-19 daily case counts and hospitalizations have declined slightly in recent weeks, they currently remain far too high to lift the order.
 

New cases of COVID-19 reported by 4 health units

Public Health Sudbury and districts reported 7 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. There were also 4 recoveries and 13 cases that screened positive for variants of concern. The North Bay Regional Health Center has added 2 new cases. There were also 4 resolved cases.
Algoma Public Health reports five new cases of COVID-19, from Sault Ste. Marie and area.
Four caught the virus from close contact. It’s unknown how the other person caught novel coronavirus, APH said Monday evening.
Meanwhile, thirteen new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today. For the new cases, 11 are in Timmins and two are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. Ten people are the contacts of a case and the exposure of three is under investigation.
 

Drive through vaccine clinic rolls forward in Greater Sudbury

Hundreds of Sudbury area residents were able to get a vaccine yesterday, through a new drive-style vaccination clinic. It took place at the Real Canadian Superstore. The initiative was a collaborative effort between the Pharmacy on-site and the Health Unit.  The event was by appointment only, and screening interviews with each person were done.
 

OPG are warning trespassers to stay clear

Ontario Power Generation has called in an increased number of trespassers near its Elliot Chute Generating Station, outside Powassan. With many out and about, some have been bypassing fencing and public safety signage to access areas around the facility. The OPG says it’s dangerous to do so… and Police have already laid a number of fines.
 

Firefighters respond to Garage Fire in Greater Sudbury

Firefighters extinguished a garage fire on Laval Street yesterday. There were no injuries in the morning blaze. While the cause has not been given, the fire department is reminding residents to thoroughly douse outdoor fires and safely dispose of ashes. The garage is said to be a total loss.
 

23-year-old woman missing: Krista Lapierre

North Bay Ontario Provincial Police are attempting to locate a missing person who was last seen more than two weeks ago in Mattawa. Police say 23-year-old Krista Lapierre was last seen April 25.  Lapierre is described as five feet tall, 100 pounds, with hazel eyes and long naturally brown hair, possibly dyed blonde and often worn in a bun. Anyone with information on Lapierre’s whereabouts is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

5-charged with breach of the stay-at-home order

The Timmins Police has charged five persons for breaching the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. This is after responding to a “noise complaint” on Sunday, May 9 at a Royale Street address. Timmins Police say five persons gathered around two vehicles listening to music at an elevated volume level. None of the five individuals located by the Timmins Police share a legitimate common address.
