Timmins Mayor Declares a “State of emergency”
Timmins Mayor George Pirie has declared a state of emergency for the city. The reason? The rapid spread of COVID-19 and its variants. He said in a statement it’s all to ensure that the city can act fast to further protect our residents and local businesses. There are 250 active cases in the Porcupine catchment area. The Timmins and District Hospital reported 10 COVID-19-positive patients averaging age 42.
2nd fire at Midas deemed suspicious
Another fire, called at the Midas in North Bay, has been deemed suspicious. It happened yesterday this afternoon. Two stations responded to the call. While the fire is under investigation. It was called in at around 2:30 pm. Fire chief Jason Whiteley says the fire was under control before 3:15 p.m.
Moose pulled from Pool in Greater Sudbury
Emergency crews and the MNR were called to lend a young moose a hand yesterday after it became trapped in a pool in the Garson. Reports indicate that crews responded at around 1:30 p.m and Fire Personnel were able to pump enough water out of the pool for the moose to be removed. The moose is in the care of the MNR for a check over before its released.
Road closed due to rail repair
Motorists in Sault Ste Marie are being advised of a road closure. Carmen’s Way between Cathcart Street and Wellington Street will be closed to traffic for two days starting today. The closure is necessary in order to facilitate repairs to the railway. During this time, construction signs including road closed, detour and directional information will be posted to direct traffic through the area along designated detour routes.
Accident takes out light pole
There’s no word as to the cause of a motor vehicle accident in Greater Sudbury. It happened yesterday, taking out a traffic light in the process. Police, Fire and Paramedics attended the single-vehicle collision on Regent Street at Caswell Drive. The vehicle itself had to be towed from the scene.
Fire alarm goes off at Cambrian College – Just a drill
Alarms could be heard ringing from Cambrian College yesterday in Greater Sudbury. Even without all the student traffic, the school indicates it was due to a scheduled fire drill on campus. The school published a notification to the media to that effect. There was no concern for safety at any point.
