New contract for parking, security in North Bay

North Bay City Council has awarded a five-year contract for parking enforcement and security services. To the tune of $822,200 it was done during its regular meeting, this week. The evaluation before signing considered company experience, transition plan, employee retention, employee development and cost.
 

No major movement expected for the 2021 property tax policy for Greater Sudbury

Greater Sudbury’s finance and administration committee has approved the 2021 property tax policy. They will keep into similar ratios that were approved in 2020. The current pandemic impacted the committee’s ability to with its property tax policy this year, and no reassessment was done last year. A reassessment will occur in 2022.
 

Pinewood Park Drive lane reduction coming for construction

A section of busy Pinewood Park Drive between North Bay and Callander will be reduced to a single lane each day for the next three weeks. This is while work related to the extension of water and sewer services to the new Casino site is completed.
 

Police looking for a missing man: 46-year-old Stephen Smith

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is looking for a missing man. 46-year-old Stephen Smith. Smith was last seen on May 14 in the area of Turner Avenue. He is described as six feet, two inches in height, with an average build, weighing approximately 180 pounds.
 

OPP respond to a single-vehicle crash on highway 144

South Porcupine OPP responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 144 north of Doyle Road yesterday. It was all due to the rollover of a tractor-trailer. There was no indication as to what led to the crash, but no injuries are being reported.
 

Police training going ahead at LU

Greater Sudbury Police Emergency Response Unit was at LU yesterday, but all for all for the better. Physical fitness training exercise were on track at the sports field. The unit received permission from the university to conduct the exercise and unit members signed a waiver to that affect. Police say that officers from the unit must take part in the training and meet a specified standard despite the current pandemic.
